With Visa's support, Moldova will automate and digitize ticket sales processes in the rail and road transport sectors
Specifically, this is provided for in a memorandum of understanding on the launch of a pilot project to modernize rail and road transport in Moldova, which was signed under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development by Visa, the Railways of Moldova company (CFM), the “Real Estate Management Directorate” state enterprise and the National Road Transport Agency. The project provides for the integration of a modern platform for managing intercity flights, the creation of a unified database, and the equipping of bus and railway stations, road transport companies, and trains with contactless payment equipment. The goal of the project is to ensure that, in the medium term, the software is voluntarily implemented by as many operators as possible so that each transport company can process ticket purchases, including on board. The implementation of the system will provide passengers with access to up-to-date information on schedules and seat availability, as well as various payment methods: bank card, mobile device, or cash. Alongside the pilot project, a mobile app developed with the support of Visa will be launched, allowing passengers to purchase tickets quickly and securely directly from their mobile phones, without having to visit ticket offices. The aim of the project, which is aimed at modernizing and optimizing activities in the field of rail and road transport, is to automate ticket sales processes to increase transparency and efficiency. Another important task is to ensure a high level of focalization, as well as the correct and uniform application of tariffs. Mircea Păscăluță, State Secretary for Infrastructure and Regional Development, noted that the signing of the memorandum is a firm commitment by state institutions to work together under the auspices of the ministry to modernize interregional transport in Moldova. According to him, this is a strategic step that creates the basis for the digitization of payments, transparency, and high-quality services in line with European standards. “Thanks to this cooperation, we are paving the way for safer, more convenient, and more efficient mobility for all citizens,” said Mircea Păscăluță. In turn, Visa's regional manager for Moldova and the Caucasus, Diana Kiguradze, said that Visa is proud of its contribution to the digital transformation of intercity transport in Moldova. "Based on our global experience in digital payments, we are implementing innovative and secure solutions that simplify people's lives and contribute to the development of the local economy. This project opens up new opportunities for integrating digital services into the transport system so that every passenger can enjoy a modern, fast, and safe journey," she noted. The development of the project will depend on the results of the pilot phase. The partnership is based on the principles of equality, cooperation, and mutual respect in accordance with national and international legislation on data protection, anti-corruption, and confidentiality. The document does not create any direct commercial obligations, which will be regulated by subsequent agreements. Visa is a global leader in digital payments, connecting consumers, businesses, financial institutions, and government agencies in more than 200 countries and territories.
