Moldova has ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Ukraine on the construction of a cross-border road bridge over the Dniester/Nistru River on the state border near Cosauti - Yampil settlements

In particular, the MPs adopted the relevant draft law in two readings at once. The above-mentioned intergovernmental agreement was signed on June 12 this year in Kyiv, although the initiative to build this bridge across the Dniester/Nistru River was voiced back in 2012. According to the authorities of both Moldova and Ukraine, the construction of this bridge will facilitate economic ties not only between the two countries, but also with other countries. In particular, the construction of the Cosauti - Yampil bridge will ensure the connection of the road network through the eastern part of Moldova with the trans-European road network TEN-T. This will facilitate trade and increase the mobility of citizens, as well as enhance the role that Moldova plays as a link between European Union states and neighboring countries. According to the agreement, the Government of Ukraine will finance the technical design, construction of the bridge and related infrastructure on its territory, and Moldova will finance the construction of related road infrastructure on its territory. The costs required for this will be established after the feasibility study has been developed. A separate agreement will also be concluded for the future maintenance of the bridge. Moldovan Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu said that, according to preliminary data, the construction of the Cosauti - Yampil bridge itself and the infrastructure adjacent to it on the territory of Ukraine will cost 40 million euros. At the same time, the construction of the adjacent infrastructure to the bridge on the territory of Moldova along with the customs checkpoint is estimated at 20 million euros. At the first stage, the bridge will be able to pass 4600 passenger and cargo vehicles per day, and in the future this figure will increase to 10.2 thousand vehicles per day. The construction should be completed by the end of 2025. All aspects related to the construction of the Cosauti-Yampil road bridge will be monitored by a joint Moldovan-Ukrainian commission, which will be set up for this purpose. The cross-border road bridge over the Dniester River on the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border in the area of Cosauti - Yampol settlements will connect the road infrastructures of the two states on the T-02-02 Mohyliv-Podilskyi-Yampil-Kryzhopil-Bershad-Uman highway (Ukraine) and the national road R14.1 R14-Cosauti - border with Ukraine (Moldova). Earlier it was reported that the length of the bridge will be 1400 meters, it will have 2 lanes and 2 pedestrian sidewalks on both sides. // 31.07.2023 - InfoMarket.
