Danube Logistics to build a new universal berth in the Giurgiulesti Port and put it into operation in the second half of 2024.

CEO of Danube Logistics Mathias von Tucher announced this during his visit to the port on the occasion of the Danube Day celebrations. The event was attended by delegations of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and Ministry of Environment, headed by their heads Lilia Dabija and Rodica Iordanov, the Romanian Consul General in Cahul Anca Corfu, Giurgiulesti Mayor Tatiana Galateanu, regional and local authorities, investors from the Port Business Park and other economic agents in the region. Danube Logistics presented to the Minister of Environment the activities and measures taken by the port to protect the environment and keep the waters of the Danube and Prut clean. Before the celebration, during a joint meeting with the delegations of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the Ministry of Environment, the management of Danube Logistics pointed out the need to expand the port's transshipment capacities. It was emphasized that the existing terminal for general cargoes is used at full capacity, and Moldovan importers and exporters, as well as investors of the Port Business Park request additional transshipment capacity. As it was noted, in this regard, Danube Logistics is planning to build a new universal berth, which will allow the entry of vessels with draft up to 7 meters. The new berth is expected to be put into operation in the second half of 2024. The General Director of Danube Logistics, Mathias von Tucher, emphasized that, although Moldova has only about 500 meters of Danube bank, out of its total length of 2,850 km, the port activities in this area are part of the vital infrastructure of Moldova, and the company wants this activity to be economically and environmentally efficient. Danube Logistics is the general investor and operator of Giurgiulesti Port, the main river port of Moldova with access to the sea. Since 2005 Danube Logistics made Giurgiulesti Port one of the most successful ports on the Danube River, contributing to the promotion of Moldovan companies' commercial activity on international markets. Danube Logistics is fully owned by the Dutch company Danube Logistics Holding BV. The only ultimate owner of the Danube Logistics Group is the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. // 03.06.2023 - InfoMarket.
