The Parliament of Moldova ratified agreements with Romania on the modernization of 3 road bridges across the Prut.

It's about the repair of road bridges across the Prut between the settlements: Sculeni-Sculeni, Leuseni-Albita and Cahul-Oancea, which were built in 1958-1964 and are currently in a deplorable state. Technical expertise showed that all 3 bridges require restoration work and replacement of some elements. Moreover, in the case of the Sculeni Bridge, defects and degradation of the structural elements of the bridge were found. Intergovernmental agreements on the repair and modernization of 3 bridges across the Prut were signed on May 9, 2023 in Chisinau by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova, Lilia Dabija, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, Ionel Scriosteanu, in the presence of the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina-Ioana Vălean, and the Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean. According to the agreements, the modernization and maintenance of the 3 cross-border bridges will be financed by the Romanian government. From Moldova, financial support will only affect the construction of access roads to bridges. All works are planned to be completed by the end of 2027. They are part of the national development strategy "European Moldova 2030". Modernization of bridges will facilitate traffic between the two states, facilitate trade in the domestic and international markets, and will also provide concrete benefits for increasing our country's connection between the countries of the European Union and Eastern Europe. “The implementation of the agreements in practice will make it possible to modernize border bridges, which will have a positive impact on regional development and will contribute to the economic growth of our country, as well as neighboring regions, supporting the needs of citizens for mobility and facilitating trade in domestic and international markets,” said Lilia Dabija.// 08.06.2023 — InfoMarket
