Danube Logistics to build a new universal berth in the Giurgiulesti port.
It will increase the capacity of the port by about 600 thousand tons. According to Danube Logistics, this was mentioned during the visit of representatives of the European Union delegation to Moldova, headed by EU Ambassador to Moldova Janis Mažeiks. The CEO of Danube Logistics, Mathias von Tucher, presented the situation of cargo handling and investments made in the port, highlighting the importance of the European Union as a trade partner for the Giurgiulesti port. He noted that in 2022 about 63% of the goods imported into Moldova through the port of Giurgiulesti were from EU countries and 62% of the exports through the port were sent to the EU. After the record volume of cargo handling in 2022 at 1.8 million tons, the general cargo terminal at the port of Giurgiulesti continues to be used at full capacity. In this regard, Danube Logistics is planning to build a new universal berth, which will provide additional capacity of about 600 thousand tons. A significant part of the new capacity will be allocated to Moldovan grain trading companies, currently engaged in the construction of granaries on the port territory. In addition to operational aspects, there were discussed framework conditions for investments and the need to continue to implement justice reform to ensure fair access to justice for investors and the rule of law in Moldova. Danube Logistics is the general investor and operator of Giurgiulesti Port. Since 2005, Danube Logistics has transformed it into one of the most successful ports on the Danube River, contributing to the promotion of Moldovan companies' trade activities on international markets. Danube Logistics is fully owned by the Dutch company Danube Logistics Holding BV. The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development is the sole ultimate owner of the Danube Logistics Group. // 04.05.2023 - InfoMarket.
