The United States confirms its readiness to consider new projects aimed at strengthening the resilience and modernization of the energy system of Moldova.
This was stated by the US Chargé d'Affaires in Moldova Nick Pietrowicz during a meeting with the Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu. He presented an overview of key changes in the energy sector since 2022, when the war in Ukraine directly affected Moldova's energy security. Dorin Junghietu highlighted the steps taken to diversify energy sources, accelerate integration into the European market and strengthen the resilience of the energy system. Special attention was paid to the role of the United States and its ongoing support through USAID programs, in particular the MESA initiative, which significantly helped stabilize and modernize the national energy sector. In connection with the completion of the program, the parties discussed new prospects for cooperation, including such strategic areas as the development of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and the construction of the Straseni-Gutinas power transmission line. "Moldova has taken important steps to strengthen energy security and promote a green transition. "We are grateful to the United States for its continued support and look forward to continued cooperation through strategic projects that will enhance the sustainability of the sector," Dorin Junghietu said. The Minister also stressed that in recent months, the share of renewable energy in Moldova has reached a record high, reflecting the country's progress in meeting its green transition goals. In turn, Nick Pietrowicz confirmed that the United States is considering new assistance opportunities focused on projects that will allow Moldova to further strengthen its energy independence, develop infrastructure and adapt to regional security challenges. //26.08.2025 – InfoMarket.
