A national information campaign on the importance of using solid biofuels in the public and private sectors has begun in Moldova
Conducted by the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) and the Ministry of Energy, the campaign is dedicated to promoting the use of solid biofuels in public institutions and the private sector. The campaign, which will run from September 2025 to March 2026, aims to reduce dependence on natural gas, support local renewable energy producers, and promote environmentally friendly solutions. The campaign focuses on the installation of solid biofuel boilers, which are an effective alternative to traditional heating sources, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the environmental impact, and energy costs. The CNED notes that such technologies provide heat to public and private facilities, contribute to the development of a closed-loop economy, and serve as models of sustainable development in rural areas. According to UNDP data, Moldova has produced about 25,500 tons of solid biofuel in recent years, which roughly corresponds to consumption. According to information from the Ministry of Energy published in February, there are 42 registered producers of solid biofuel in the country, and more than 300 state institutions already use biomass for heating. The installed capacity of solid biofuel-fired boiler houses is 70 MW, and they are capable of replacing up to 20 million cubic meters of natural gas, which is equivalent to savings of about $20 million. //26.08.2025 – InfoMarket.
