IMF will support and provide Moldova with the necessary technical assistance in the development of the energy sector

This was announced by the representatives of the International Monetary Fund during a meeting with the director of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER), Alexandru Ursu. According to NAER, during the meeting, the IMF representatives discussed a series of topics related to Moldova's natural gas and electricity supply sources, mechanisms of energy purchases, price dynamics on the regional market and their impact on the electricity and natural gas tariffs, as well as other aspects related to the liberalization of the natural gas market. Alexandru Ursu said that the agency, state bodies and market players continue their efforts to liberalize the natural gas market, adding that at present, about 10 per cent of the market in Moldova operates at unregulated prices. The participants in the meeting also discussed the adjustment of electricity tariffs in conditions when the right-bank Moldova no longer buys electricity from Moldavskaya GRES from January 1, 2025. The experts mentioned the interconnection with Romania and Ukraine, the development of internal transportation networks, problems related to balancing the electricity system, the capacities allocated to each country within ENTSO-E, the introduction of differentiated prices depending on the hours of electricity consumption, etc. // 12.03.2025 - InfoMarket
