Chisinau will not pay anything for the gas supplied by Gazprom to the Transnistrian region, and will pay only for the electricity supplied by the Moldovan Hydro-Power Plant (MHPP).

Andrei Spinu, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova stated this while commenting on the questions raised by many citizens and experts after the news about the terms of the contract concluded by Energocom with the MHPP for the supply of electricity for the right bank of the Dniester River, according to which Moldovagaz will supply 5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day to the Transnistrian region, including the MHPP. Andrei Spinu specified that the obligation to pay 5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day lies on the left bank. "The right bank of the Dniester will not pay anything for the gas supplied by Gazprom and will pay only for electricity supplied by the MHPP. "Moldovagaz has not paid the advance for December, and until December 20, the company will pay the consumption of the right bank of the Dniester for November," said Deputy Prime Minister. He explained that, according to the contract signed between Moldovagaz and Gazprom, 406 million cubic meters of natural gas were to be supplied in December, while 5.7 million cubic meters per day (as of December 31) will total 176.6 million cubic meters. "In other words, Gazprom will supply only 43% of the contracted volumes. This volume is clearly not enough to provide both banks of the Dniester with gas and electricity," said Andrei Spinu. According to him, 3.4 million cubic meters per day were supplied to the right bank of the Dniester in the first 3 days of December, while to the left bank - 2.3 million cubic meters per day. "From December 4, 5.7 million cubic meters per day will be supplied to the left bank. Thus, 176.6 million cubic meters per month will be divided as follows: the right bank of the Dniester - 10.2 million cubic meters, the left bank - 166.4 million cubic meters per month, including for electricity production. Deputy Prime Minister specified that for the production of at least 204 thousand MW (over 53% of the total consumption) of electric energy for the right bank of the Dniester, about 67 million cubic meters of "blue fuel" are needed. According to him, in the end, if we add up the volumes delivered in the first 3 days of the month and the volume allocated for the production of electric energy, about 77.2 million cubic meters of gas (43%) will be used for the right bank of the Dniester and 99.4 million cubic meters (57%) for the left bank of the Dniester. When asked why the left bank of the Dniester received more gas, Andrei Spinu said that in December, about 3.2 million cubic meters per day will be supplied to the left bank of the Dniester. This is enough gas to provide residents on the left bank with gas, heat and electricity. December is a cold month and the consumption is higher than in November (in November, 2.3 million cubic meters per day were supplied to Transnistria). "This volume of gas will also be enough to supply technological processes at enterprises on the left bank, including the Moldova Steel Works (MMZ). But it is obvious that these companies will not be able to work properly. For example, according to the contract, the left bank of the Dniester was to receive 217 million cubic meters of gas from Gazprom alone in December," Deputy Prime Minister said. // 05.12.2022 – InfoMarket
