Greece-Bulgaria natural gas interconnector IGB started transporting natural gas to Moldova.
According to foreign media reports, the independent transmission operator ICGB (Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria) announced this on December 1. "As a result, more than 80% of the total capacity of the IGB gas pipeline of 3 billion cubic meters per year has already been booked," ICGB said in a statement without specifying the volume of deliveries to Moldova. The Interconnector, which allows natural gas imports to Bulgaria from Azerbaijan via Greece, has been operating since October 1, covering about 1/3 of Bulgaria's needs for the current heating season. It has also facilitated imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from terminals in Greece and Turkey. "At this point, the capacity reserved for Moldova will also be used to provide the necessary quantities for the country's domestic consumption during the winter period, providing a reliable and predictable source of supply," ICGB added. Last month, Bulgaria and Moldova, which until now had been fully dependent on gas imports from Russian Gazprom via Ukraine, signed an agreement to grant Moldova access to natural gas through the network of state gas transmission system operator Bulgargaz in order to improve energy security in Southeastern Europe. // 02.12.2022 – InfoMarket
