
Igor Grosu was elected Chairman of the Moldovan Parliament.
He was nominated for the position by colleagues from the ruling Action and Solidarity faction (PAS) and was the only candidate for the post of speaker. 64 deputies from the PAS factions and the Sor party, that is, all parliamentarians who took part in this procedure, voted for the election of Igor Grosu as the chairman of the parliament during a secret ballot. Representatives of the electoral bloc of communists and socialists did not participate in the voting. Igor Grosu was born on November 30, 1972 in the village of Andrusul de Sus, Cahul region. He is a historian, a graduate of the State University. In the period from August 15, 2012 to August 12, 2015, he served as Deputy Minister of Education. In the parliament of the previous convocation, where he was elected on the lists of the electoral bloc ACUM Platform DA and PAS, Igor Grosu was the chairman of the PAS faction, deputy chairman of the commission on national security, defense and public order.
