
About 329.2 million lei (16.3 million euros) are needed for the population and housing census planned for 2024, including about 36.8 million lei for the agricultural module.
Such calculations are presented in the draft Law on Population and Housing Census approved by the government. The total budget for the census preparation, conduction and issuance of the final results is until 2026. The budget assumes the following main costs: 6% of the total budget). In particular, the training of census staff is estimated at 5.5 million lei (1.7% of the total budget). In total, it is planned to train about 9,300 people who will be involved in the preparation and conduct of the population census; 2) Procurement of equipment, including tablets and computers and data processing - 63.9 million lei (19.4% of the total budget); 3) Updating maps on the ground by collecting coordinates for each building and dwelling on the territory of Moldova - 6.7 million lei (2%); 4) Completion of the sample census (2023) is a key activity for the proper preparation of the main census, which is an exercise in checking the general census, but on a smaller scale. The budget for this event is about 5.7 million lei (1.7%); 5) Activities to inform the population about the census (from the stage of preparation to dissemination of results) - 3.2 million lei (1%); 6) Other expenses will be about 5.6% of the total budget, including expenses for transport services, rent, consumables, printing materials, etc. The authorities are hoping for EU assistance of 2 million euros for the preparation of the census under the NDICI cooperation instrument, scheduled for 2022-2023.
