Moldova is interested in attracting investment from Qatar and cooperation to strengthen energy security.
This was stated by Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilita during an official meeting with her Qatari counterpart Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani. The sides discussed issues related to the cooperation agenda between Moldova and Qatar, as well as Moldova's investment opportunities. The meeting also focused on the regional situation in the context of the war in Ukraine. Moldova’s need in strong support to eliminate the consequences and build its resilience was also noted. Moldovan Prime Minister stressed that, despite the difficulties of this period, attracting foreign direct investments in the national economy remains a priority, the achievement of which will ensure stability and the resumption of the development course in all directions. The officials discussed issues related to Moldova's energy sector and ways to cooperate in order to consolidate the country's energy security, including by creating strategic reserves, investing in renewable energy sources and diversifying access to different energy sources in the long run. Natalia Gavrilita expressed admiration for the achievements of Qatar in strengthening food security over the past few years. Thus, the parties agreed to cooperate in the agri-food sector, both through the exchange of experiences and through increased collaboration in the private sector. Qatar's progress in supporting social sectors was also discussed. In this regard, the needs of Moldova in education and health care were listed, which could benefit from Qatar's support and experience, both for Moldovan citizens and for the integration of children and families of refugees from Ukraine. // 13.06.2022 - InfoMarket
