
Spain plans to open a diplomatic mission in Moldova.
This was announced by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at a press conference in Chisinau, held after a meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu. He noted that the opening of a diplomatic office in Chisinau will help develop the bilateral relations between Moldova and Spain. Pedro Sánchez condemned the military actions unleashed by Russia in Ukraine and expressed gratitude to Moldova for the assistance provided to Ukrainian refugees. According to him, Spain has provided Moldova with 30 tons of humanitarian aid and 20 million euros to manage the migration crisis, and will be able to accept 2,000 Ukrainian refugees if necessary. Pedro Sánchez also reiterated Spain's willingness to continue Moldova's European course and to cooperate with Moldova in different fields, both at bilateral and EU level. Maia Sandu also spoke in favor of strengthening the Moldovan-Spanish relations. She emphasized that Spain is an important trade and investment partner for Moldova. She noted that almost 60 companies with Spanish capital are operating in Moldova, including in the energy, wine-making and other sectors. According to her, Moldova is interested in attracting Spanish investments in textile, agro-food, industrial sectors, etc., as well as in extending cooperation in different fields.
