The Parliament of Moldova approved the removal of parliamentary immunity from 2 deputies of the Sor party faction - Marina Tauber and Ilan Sor.

The Parliament of Moldova approved the removal of parliamentary immunity from 2 deputies of the Sor party faction - Marina Tauber and Ilan Sor.

At the plenary session on Thursday, the deputies adopted resolutions approving the removal of parliamentary immunity from the named deputies in order to arrest, search and prosecute them. All four decisions were discussed and adopted separately by the votes of the deputies of the factions of the Action and Solidarity Party and the Sor Party. Petitions for the removal of parliamentary immunity were sent to the Chairman of the Parliament by the Acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu on May 19. Marina Tauber and Ilan Sor are suspected of money laundering as part of an organized criminal group or criminal organization, as well as large-scale fraud. Dumitru Robu is sure that the criminal cases involving deputies from the Sor party are well documented and will be sent to court, and there is enough evidence that Tauber and Sor were involved in the commission of these crimes. The cases concern several episodes of the “theft of the century” from Moldovan banks. Ilan Sor and Marina Tauber do not admit their guilt and call what is happening a political reprisal on the part of the authorities, noting that the prosecutor's office has no claims either against the former prime ministers Vlad Filat and Iurie Leanca, or against other state officials and officials who contributed to the theft from the Moldovan banking system. Marina Tauber stated that in the period from November 2014 to March 2016, members of the government and the management of the National Bank committed a serious crime against the state, illegally issued capital in the amount of 13 billion lei and provided urgent loans to BEM, although no one asked for it . “They provided money by force, distributed it as they saw fit, and slashed the banking market. Three banks were liquidated and shareholders were stripped of their assets and property. How could these banks repay the government loan when they were liquidated? And in 2016, Filip's government ended this criminal epic by imposing a debt on the state budget for a period of 25 years, at a rate of 5% per year,” said Marina Tauber. According to her, what happened in 2014 was the most cynical crime at the state level, for which everyone who made decisions to grant Banca de Economii, Banca Socială and Unibank urgent loans insured with state guarantees, as well as those who implemented them, should be held criminally liable. Recall that Ilan Sor is on the international wanted list. According to the Prosecutor General's Office at the beginning of 2022, he is in Israel. Ilan Sor asked the Chairman of the Parliament Igor Grosu to give him the opportunity to express his point of view on the request to remove his parliamentary immunity at a meeting of the legislature, but the speaker refused him this, recalling that the deputy is obliged to take part in the meetings of the Parliament and the standing committee, as part of to which he is a member, and if he is unable to appear for good reason, he is obliged to inform the Permanent Bureau or the secretariat of the reasons for his absence. // 26.05.2022 — InfoMarket.
