Moldova expects to get a clear perspective from the European Union and to diversify its agricultural exports.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu said this at the end of a working visit to Brussels. He noted that the goal of this visit to Brussels was dual and, above all, it concerned such an important point as the promotion of our European perspective. Next week, the European Commission will present an opinion recommending Member States to take the next steps in relation to Moldova, taking into account the questionnaire it filled out earlier. "Now is a very important moment to do everything possible to influence the position of the member states, the European Commission, so that in the coming weeks Moldova will move towards EU accession. We hope to get a clear perspective of accession to the EU and gradually move towards candidate status. This is our hope, in these days and weeks we are indeed experiencing a very important stage for our European aspirations. I used the occasion of this visit to Brussels to convince as many interlocutors as possible, as many authors of the European Commission's opinion that Moldova is a European country which deserves to be in the European Union with the help of European institutions," the Foreign Minister said. According to him, another no less important goal is the need to diversify the export of agricultural products. Nicu Popescu reminded that Moldovan farmers were very much affected by the war in Ukraine, the blockade of transport routes. "Together with colleagues from the government, the Prime Minister, colleagues from the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, we have worked hard in recent months to convince the European Union to increase quotas for our agricultural exports, especially fruits and vegetables, in the hope of achieving some results in the near future. I had a meeting with the European Commissioner for Agriculture to discuss an increase in quotas and capacities of our fruit and vegetable export to the EU, in order to grant a decent life, decent income to our farmers, who were badly hit by this war," the Moldovan diplomat said. // 09.06.2022 - InfoMarket
