In 2024, Moldova became the 6th largest exporter of vermouth in the world with an indicator of $ 43.8 million - Veaceslav Ionita

This was reported by an expert on economic policy at the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) Viitorul, noting that 99% of all exports of Moldovan vermouth last year went to the US market. Vermouth is an alcoholic drink with aromatic herbs. Moldova previously supplied it mainly to Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. The US market was opened in 2023 and in 2024, the total export volume of Moldovan vermouth amounted to $ 43.8 million, with 99% of all exports going to the United States. "We discovered the Americans. The Americans discovered us. And in addition to all the achievements that we already have - the export of wine, fruits, plums, which have gone down in history - vermouth has now become the number one product. And so, almost unnoticed, we became the 6th largest vermouth exporter in the world, and with a little effort, we can soon reach 4th place after the countries that are well known to everyone: Italy, France, Spain,” said Veaceslav Ionita. He emphasized that vermouth is produced in Moldova, and it is not about re-export. “We managed to surprise the world. We already occupy 6% of the world vermouth market. With a little effort, we can exceed 10%. Literally out of nowhere - we have become major players in the world vermouth market. And for the Americans, out of 10 bottles of vermouth they drink, at least 2 bottles are produced in Moldova,” said the economic policy expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) Viitorul. // 08.04.2025 – InfoMarket.
