Moldova sent the first batch of 20 tons of apples to Mumbai on March 19 after receiving free access for these fruits to the Indian market.
This was reported by the Association of Fruit Producers and Exporters Moldova Fruct, noting that in a few days, Moldovan apples will be in the port of Istanbul, Turkey, and a month later, they will be on the shelves of Indian stores. As noted by the association, "preparing for this step was not easy": Red Chief apples were carefully selected, which "perfectly match the preferences of local consumers" - red, 65+ caliber, with a pleasant balance of sweetness, with strict adherence to packaging and transportation standards. "This is just the beginning! We are confident that Moldovan apples will be able to win the hearts of Indian consumers, opening up new prospects for our producers!" - Moldova Fruct said. Earlier, it was reported that Moldovan apples were given free access to India, the world's largest market with 1.4 billion people, after India included Moldova in the list of countries that are allowed to supply apples to its market, according to Indian phytosanitary rules. To gain access to the Indian market, Moldova Fruct members have been exporting 340 tons of apples to India under the supervision of the National Food Safety Authority since 2023 as part of the trial shipments program. The results of the trial shipments demonstrated compliance with the phytosanitary standards set by the Indian authorities. The decision was taken following the efforts of the Moldovan government to diversify the export markets for Moldovan products. Exporters of Moldovan apples to India will have to comply with the established requirements, including refrigeration of apples before shipment, which will be indicated in the phytosanitary certificate issued by the National Food Safety Authority. // 19.03.2025 — InfoMarket.
