The first 118 million lei of the 200 million lei of assistance allocated by the government went to the accounts of 958 micro and small farmers in Moldova.
The Ministry of Agriculture announced this, emphasizing that this money will help farmers reduce production costs, improve their financial situation, cultivate and prepare the land for the next period. Financial assistance payments began on Friday, November 17, and will be administered by the Agricultural Intervention and Payment Agency (AIPA) until the end of this week. The total number of applicants reaches 2161 farmers. Of these, 1,706 farmers are classified as microfarmers and 455 as small farmers, and the total area of agricultural land in the country, from which the amount of financial assistance is calculated, is 161,433 hectares, sown with crops of the first group (wheat, barley, oats, triticale). It was previously reported that the government will help micro and small farmers affected by the 2022 crisis to prevent their insolvency. In this regard, the Cabinet will allocate 200 million lei, the money will be distributed through the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture after collecting applications for assistance. The financial amount established for each applicant will facilitate the cultivation and preparation of land for the next period, improve the financial situation and prevent bankruptcy of approximately 3,000 farmers owning areas of up to 1,500 hectares. “Agriculture receives huge subsidies amounting to more than 1 billion 700 thousand lei annually, because we want this sector to gradually become more technologically advanced and less vulnerable to external challenges. The enormous efforts we are making today together with the entire society will help farmers overcome their financial difficulties,” earlier said Prime Minister Dorin Recean. According to statistics, these funds will facilitate the cultivation of about 280 thousand hectares of land sown with crops of the first group (wheat, barley, oats). // 20.11.2023 — InfoMarket
