Moldova’s control system in the agri-food sector will be harmonized with the EU practice.

Moldova’s control system in the agri-food sector will be harmonized with the EU practice.

This is stipulated by the draft Law on official control in the agri-food sector, passed by the Parliament in the first reading. The document, elaborated by the Agriculture and Food Ministry, is aimed at creating a normative framework to improve the protection of human health, animal health, food and feed safety. At the same time, the draft law harmonizes the national legislation with the EU legislation in the field of food safety, sanitary and phytosanitary policies, in line with Moldova's commitments within the association agreement with the EU. The document regulates the official control of animals, plants and goods imported to Moldova from other countries in order to protect human, animal and plant health. The draft law also contains a set of rules designed to prevent risks that may be created by genetically modified organisms or phytosanitary products. The provisions of the document concern the entire agri-food chain, from production, marketing and export of livestock products. The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) will be the body responsible for organizing and carrying out official controls in the agri-food sector. // 10.11.2023 - InfoMarket.
