Moldovan authorities to lift the ban on sugar exports soon.

The Ministry of Agriculture reported this, noting that in this way Moldova will be able to resume deliveries abroad of this product, interrupted since March 1 last year. The necessity to remove sugar export restrictions was discussed at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry within the framework of the sectoral expert council "Sugar Beet and Sugar Products". As noted, according to the official data, the volume of sugar stored in warehouses is currently excessive. Processors claim that the country's food security will not suffer if sugar exports are allowed. Vasile Sarban, state secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that jointly with the Ministry of Economy the necessary steps will be taken to allow the sale of sugar on foreign markets to prevent the potential negative impact on the profitability of processing plants. Another topic discussed was the provision of financial assistance from the state to expand the areas planted with sugar beet and to subsidize investments in technology. In this context, Vasile Sarban said that the Regulation on subsidizing is in the process of elaboration, after which public consultations on it will be launched. As a rule, Moldova produces about 80-90 thousand tons of sugar annually, depending on climatic conditions. Export of sugar has been banned since March 1, 2022, by the Emergency Situations Commission in order to ensure food security of Moldova in the face of multiple crises in the region. //23.03.2023 - InfoMarket.
