The wine industry forms 3% of Moldova's GDP and provides 8% of the country's exports.
Such data were announced at the industry wine conference "Cooperation between the EU and the Eastern Partnership in the wine sector: the attractiveness of the industry and market opportunities." The conference took place within the framework of the Made in Moldova exhibition and was attended by over 150 representatives from Moldova, Eastern Partnership countries and the EU. The conference discussed the current situation in the industry, prospects and challenges. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea, noted that the winemaking sector is one of the most important in Moldova, it has a huge export potential. According to him, volumes of wine exports in bulk are decreasing every year, while supplies of wine in bottles are growing. “The cost of selling Moldovan wine has increased: if in 2014, on average, a liter of Moldovan wine was sold at 38 cents, now it is $1.7/liter. This is a phenomenal growth for a dense and highly competitive market,” said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture. State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy Viorel Garaz (former director of Milestii Mici) noted the importance of supporting wine producers and exporters during crises, including from the EU. “When Russia announced another embargo on wine products from Moldova, it was with the support of our partners that we managed to diversify exports. And today wines from Moldova are exported to more than 70 countries, they receive the most awards and medals at international competitions, and this experience can be transferred to other sectors of the economy - textile and other industry segments,” Viorel Garaz said. The conference became a platform for discussions, which brought together the beneficiaries of the EU4BCC project. They reported on the main achievements and progress and presented the results of the activities implemented within the projects. The participants discussed the challenges and opportunities of the wine sector, while experts in the field shared the results of current research and informed about new trends and market requirements. The conference was held within the framework of the EU4Business: Connecting Companies (EU4BCC) project, with the financial support of the EU. The organizer of the conference is the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova, which is a member of the Wine Consortium. // 02.02.2023 — InfoMarket
