Energocom submitted a request to increase the gas tariff for Moldovan end consumers due to the increase in the gas purchase price from €30 to €56 per MWh amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East

Energocom submitted a request to increase the gas tariff for Moldovan end consumers due to the increase in the gas purchase price from €30 to €56 per MWh amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East

This was announced by the acting CEO of the state-owned company Energocom, Eugeniu Buzatu, at a press conference on Thursday, noting that the gas price increase is due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and risks associated with the Persian Gulf region, which are dramatically changing the cost of gas scheduled for delivery in the coming months. These factors are beyond the control of suppliers, and they have no influence on the conflict in the Middle East, which remains uncontrolled. The purchase price accounts for 66% of the current gas tariff for Moldovan consumers. When the current tariffs were set in February of this year, the gas purchase price was approximately €30 per MWh. Subsequently, starting in March, following the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East, which impacted the global gas market, prices began to rise, and today they have reached €56 per MWh. This necessitates a tariff adjustment in the context of a significant increase in the purchase price. Eugeniu Buzatu emphasized that in the event of a sharp price increase, with either a positive or negative deviation of the total regulated revenue of more than 1%, the supplier is obliged to request a tariff adjustment from the regulator. Thus, another factor that predetermined the need to submit a tariff adjustment request was the fact that Energocom had already accumulated negative tariff deviations amounting to 106 million lei, which exceeds 1% of the total regulated revenue. "This was one of the factors underlying the request for a tariff adjustment from the regulator," noted the head of Energocom. According to him, if the tariff is not adjusted now, negative tariff deviations will increase and will be included in the tariff during its next revaluation. The current tariff includes an average purchase price of €30/MWh, which, given the sharp rise in gas prices on global exchanges, poses a direct risk to the company's ability to meet its payments to gas suppliers.// 16.07.2026 — InfoMarket
