The tariff for the modernization of Chisinau Airport has been completely abolished as of January 1.
The administration of the capital's airport announced this, recalling that from July 1, 2023, this fee was halved: from 9 to 4.5 euros per passenger, and from January 1, 2024 it was finally abolished. In accordance with the development plan of the Chisinau Airport, the reconstruction of runway 08/26 was successfully carried out last year. The work lasted 2 months, during which work was carried out to eliminate runway expansion joints and surface structure defects identified as part of corrective maintenance work. Due to the lack of parking spaces in the summer, construction has begun on a new parking lot on the airport territory, with 260 spaces, which should be put into operation in the spring of 2024. Another important event last year for Chisinau Airport was the signing of a memorandum with Iasi Airport, within the framework of which Cooperation was established on access to cross-border European programs, development of activities within the framework of European funds and exchange of best practices. Considering the fact that continuous development is one of the company’s priorities, airport personnel continued their training in 2023 by attending various specialized courses: 142 employees were trained in their areas of activity, taking part in approximately 25 trainings (flight safety, aviation security, communications, economic development, etc.). On June 1, 2023, Chisinau Airport, the main air gateway to Moldova, hosted 50 European leaders participating in the summit of the European Political Community. The safety of official flights, the safety of foreign guests, the logistics process and their comfort were priorities for airport staff at this event. To improve flight safety, modern special equipment was purchased before the event, which drives birds away from the runway. Another important moment for Chisinau Airport was the change of IATA code from KIV to RMO, which will come into force on January 18. The capital airport clarified that from the point of view of international institutional development, on October 13, 2023, Chisinau Airport became an associate member of the Romanian Airport Association (RAA). By joining the RAA, Chisinau Airport was able to benefit not only from access to training in the field of airport security and aviation security, but also from the experience of Romanian airports that meet international standards. And on December 15, 2023, Chisinau Airport received membership in the Airports Council International in Europe (ACI Europe), continuing to implement international European standards. On November 22, 2023, the CAT III Instrument Landing System (ILS) upgrade contract was signed and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. ILS equipment will be upgraded from CAT II to CAT III, which enables landing operations in low visibility conditions, which will improve flight safety and efficiency, reduce flight delays, improve operational flexibility and increase airport capacity, contributing to improved passenger comfort. Last year, in the process of continuous development and modernization, Chisinau Airport increased its fleet of multi-purpose vehicles for removing snow from runways and taxiways. As part of the airport's development, the purchase of devices for detecting explosives, as well as new X-ray devices for inspecting baggage, mail and cargo, began. In addition, Chisinau Airport has taken care to maintain a high level of customer support through online platforms. This made it possible to quickly respond to requests from traveling citizens. “Chisinau Airport continues to modernize, has clear development plans, strives to comply with international standards, concentrating its efforts on the constant development of infrastructure and the quality of services provided,” the capital’s airport said. // 15.01.2024 — InfoMarket.
