Moldova and the European Union have signed an agreement on the liberalization of road freight transport.

Moldova and the European Union have signed an agreement on the liberalization of road freight transport.

It will allow Moldovan truckers to move through the EU without permits for bilateral and transit traffic of EU countries and freely deliver goods to European markets. The document was signed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu and Minister Delegate of the French Presidency Christophe Bechu at the conference Connecting Europe Days 2022, Europe's mobility flagship, held in Lyon, France, which is the most important event in the EU in the field of mobility and transport. Under the agreement, bilateral and transit road transport of goods will be exempt from permits. Thus, road transport operators in Moldova will be provided with permanent mobility, new opportunities and easier access to the European economic market. The agreement is concluded until March 31, 2023, with the possibility of extension. At present Moldova's bilateral relations in the field of road transport with the majority of EU countries are regulated by bilateral intergovernmental agreements that establish different conditions for road transport. In particular, they stipulate that transportation of goods by road is carried out only on the basis of permits for road transportation. Quotas of permits are negotiated on the basis of the principle of parity and are largely insufficient for Moldovan road transport operators. // 30.06.2022 – InfoMarket
