The State Chancellery has appealed in court the decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council to increase the fares for public transport.
It was reported by Vice-Mayor Ilie Ceban during the operational meeting of municipal services in Chisinau. According to him, last week, the Chisinau City Hall challenged the decisions of the Municipal Council and the Chisinau mayor's office to approve the new public transportation tariffs by filing not a standard 30-day notice, but by appealing directly to the court demanding the suspension of the Municipal Council's decision to increase the tariffs. Ceban noted that the procedure initiated by the State Chancellery is slightly different from the legal ones, and the mayor's office intends to present its position on the matter in court. The Vice-Mayor has also said that the public transport tariffs in Chisinau have not changed since 2009, because of which the Electric Transport Department and the Municipal Bus Park suffered (insufficient infrastructure development, low quality of services, specialists' remuneration). "For 2 years we have invested more than 340 million lei to increase the vehicle fleet, create conditions for the employees of both companies and attract specialists in these areas. We have repeatedly discussed the new methodology, and its benefits have been explained everywhere, including the introduction of different types of fares. Today more than 15 thousand passes have already been sold. We intend to keep the proposed mechanism, which has been approved legally and we look forward to the equality of the judiciary, without any external influence," said the Vice-Mayor. As a reminder, on June 13, the Chisinau Municipal Council approved a new methodology of calculation and regulation of tariffs and expenditures for public transportation. Based on the new methodology, the General Mayor has instructed to raise tariffs for travel in trolleybuses and buses from 2 to 6 lei, respectively, as of July 1. The cost of season tickets has been also approved as follows: 234 lei for a month; 594 lei for three months; 972 lei for six months. Free or reduced fares are provided for certain categories of citizens. // 27.06.2022 - InfoMarket
