
The Moldovan government approved the start of negotiations with Romania on the construction of a bridge across the Prut between the Moldovan and Romanian cities of the same name Ungheni, the project cost will be 40 million euros.
In particular, at a meeting on Thursday, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to start negotiations on a draft agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania on the technical, financial, legal and organizational aspects of the construction of a border road bridge between the two states. For the negotiations, an official delegation was formed, headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu, who received the authority to initial the agreed text of the said agreement. This project will be implemented under the supervision and joint responsibility of the governments of Moldova and Romania. A proposal to implement an investment project and build a bridge between the two settlements was submitted by the Romanian side of the European Commission, and the project was approved for financing with the aim of modernizing the Iasi-Ungheni border region as part of the TEN-T network. The agreement will contain provisions regarding the implementation of the project, taking measures to streamline traffic, creating a control system for crossing the state border, protecting the Prut waters, establishing a mixed commission to coordinate the construction of the facility, regulating property ownership, technical and financial audit, etc. The construction of the mentioned bridge will ensure the connection of the road network of Moldova in the west of the country to the TEN-T network, which will ensure greater mobility of citizens and facilitate the development of trade in the domestic market of the contracting parties and in the international market. // 19.08.2021- InfoMarket.
