Moldovan parliament press service reported this, noting that the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy and European Integration at a meeting on Wednesday approved the start of negotiations on a draft agreement on the repair of this bridge and the subsequent signing of the document by the governments of Moldova and Romania. The border road bridge across the Prut between Giurgiulesti-Galati settlements was built in 1949. Following the discussions at the meeting of the Joint Interdepartmental Working Group, which took place in Bucharest on July 23, 2019, this object was included in the list of priority projects of Moldova-Romania cooperation. Thus, the governments of the two countries plan to start negotiations and sign an Agreement on technical, financial, legal and organizational aspects related to strengthening the Giurgiulesti-Galati bridge. The purpose of this Agreement is to ensure the strengthening of the border road bridge that connects the road infrastructure between the two states on the route of the following roads: on the territory of Moldova, the national road M3 Chisinau - Comrat - Giurgiulesti - border with Romania and through Romania. The signing of the agreement includes compliance with the requirements of the legislation in the field of road infrastructure, environmental protection, including in terms of environmental impact assessment, protection of the waters of the Prut River, etc. According to the document, the term of work is 2 years. The Romanian government will provide funding for the restoration of the facility from the state budget within the annually approved amount.
