
The World Bank-financed Local Roads Improvement Project with a total cost of $ 80 million is being successfully implemented in Moldova.
This was discussed at a meeting of representatives of the State Administration of Highways with the manager of this project - the Association of Tecnic, Hill International and SweRoad companies. The parties discussed the progress of the project, financed by the World Bank, noting that by now the repair of the road on the section passing through the village of Pirlita and the Alexeevca commune of the Ungheni region and Milesti of the Nisporeni region (part of Corridor 13.2) has been fully completed. Next, should take place the acceptance of the completed repair work on the 12.5 km section and the official commissioning of the road. In addition, the repair of the road Corridor 8.3, crossing the villages of Hirbovat, Sverida and Oniscani, Calarasi district, has been completed by more than 88%. During the meeting, was also discussed the progress of work on the restoration of 3 sections of roads with a length of 36.5 km in Telenesti and Rezina districts included in Corridor 10 and crossing the settlements of Chistelnita, Scorteni (Telenesti district) and Meseni, Ignatei, Peciste, Pripiceni-Razesti, Pripicheni-Curchi, Trifesti (Rezina region). The repair of these sections of the road began at the end of March this year. As noted, work to rehabilitate Corridor 10 is progressing slowly so far, which is not in line with the work program. The State Highway Administration has warned the contractor to take urgent action to avoid delays. The length of corridor 13.1, passing through Pirlita and Alexeevca, is about 11 km, and the progress of repair work there was about 41%. Improvement works on the road Corridor 16, which crosses the settlements of Pojareni, Costesti, Zimbreni, Horesti and Tipala from the Ialoveni region, are being carried out over a total length of over 34 km. Contracts for the rehabilitation of Corridor 16 were signed with three companies from Moldova within the framework of the Local Roads Improvement Project in early November 2020. According to Veaceslav Potop, Acting Director General of the State Administration of Roads, the WB Local Roads Improvement project is important for the development of Moldova's infrastructure, since it provides citizens with access to educational, medical and shopping centers, and improves road safety. He noted that at the end of 2020, 2 repaired sections with a total length of 27.6 km were put into operation, connecting the villages of Miclesti, Isnovat, Hirtopul Mare, Criuleni region and Peresecina, Orhei region, part of Corridor 11, as well as 2 sections of the road with a total length of more than 17 km, which cross Milesti, Balanesti, Padureni and Seliste of the Nisporeni region and are part of Corridor 13.
