National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) allocated 4.9 million lei for the purchase of vaccine against meningococcal infection
The Ministry of Health said that the procedure of purchasing a batch of vaccine has started. In order to ensure immunization and prevent complications of the infection in children, the vaccine will be administered to them first of all at the parents' request, starting from the age of 2 months. It is noted that over the last 10 years, more than 220 cases of meningococcal infection have been detected in Moldova, of which about 60% - in children under 2 years of age. At the same time, more than 50 people died from the infection (mortality rate - 23%). Only in 2 months of 2025, 5 cases of meningitis were detected in children aged 1-9 years (in Chisinau, Balti, Ialoveni, Criuleni). Meningococcal infection is transmitted through airborne droplets and sometimes through contaminated objects. Children under 14 years of age are most often affected. This type of bacteria can cause serious illnesses such as meningitis and blood poisoning. Most people with meningitis recover completely, but in some cases meningitis can cause long-term effects such as hearing loss, vision loss, seizures, memory problems, and balance and coordination problems. // 03.03.2025 - InfoMarket.
