A major investment project for the installation of modern street lighting worth 38.46 million lei will be implemented in Cahul.

This was reported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, noting that the contract for the completion of the construction of the street lighting system was signed between the Cahul City Hall, the Regional Development Agency "South" and the company that will implement the project. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, who was on a working visit to Cahul. The project envisages the modernization and expansion of 87.6 km of lighting networks. In addition, 765 lighting poles and 2,397 LED lamps will be installed. A remote control system will also be implemented to ensure effective remote control over the operation and maintenance of street lighting. The total cost of the works is 38.46 million lei, of which 33.75 million lei was allocated from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, and 5.04 million lei is the contribution of the Cahul City Hall. The works will take about 12 months. Vladimir Bolea noted that the Ministry’s commitment is to support the development of all regions and cities. According to him, the National Program for the Development of Growth Pole Cities, developed and implemented by the Ministry jointly with the Regional Development Agencies, has demonstrated its viability and effectiveness, and today 6 large cities in the northern, central and southern regions of the country attract nearby villages, becoming real centers of socio-economic development. “This is a development model that we need to multiply and continue to support. The city of Cahul meets all the necessary criteria to be considered a real development pole in the south of the country, and this project is only the first step, which will be followed by other initiatives to modernize the water supply and sewerage infrastructure, rehabilitate roads and improve the living conditions of residents,” said Vladimir Bolea. During his visit to Cahul, he also met with the heads of districts in the southern region. The topics discussed concerned strengthening cooperation between level II and level I authorities in order to ensure more effective implementation of local and regional development projects within the framework of the second stage of the European Village National Program. The focus was on identifying ways in which central and local governments can work together more effectively to increase the impact of development projects on communities. // 11.02.2025 — InfoMarket.
