13 people were detained in the corruption case at the Chisinau airport.

According to the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA), 15 officers of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police are under investigation by CNA and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office in a corruption case. The case was opened on June 23 and includes a total of 59 episodes, including 38 bribery allegations and 21 more acts. The process was initiated after receiving operational information, which subsequently made it possible to identify the entire corruption scheme. As a result of operational measures, it was established that the Border Police officers at the Chisinau airport, while performing their duties under the conditions of the restrictions imposed by the epidemiological situation, created and implemented a scheme for the illegal receipt of funds from passengers leaving the country and suspected of presenting a PCR test with signs of falsifications. Thus, the police officers systematically received from citizens flying out of Moldova, amounts ranging from 50 to 100 euros. At this stage, 15 border guards are suspected in the case, 13 of whom have been detained and will be placed in the CNA pre-trial detention center. They are under investigation on charges of passive corruption and are at risk of up to 10 years in prison with disqualification from holding public office for up to 10 years. // 29.09.2021 - InfoMarket
