
Moldova reduced imports of energy resources and electricity in value terms by 32.4% to $1 billion 859.8 million in 2023 compared to 2022.
These are the data of Moldova’s Balance of Payments for last year, released by the National Bank of Moldova (NBM). At the same time, in the fourth quarter of 2023, imports of energy resources and electricity amounted to $398.93 million, which is 2.5 times less than in the same period of the previous year ($998.68 million). According to the NBM, in particular, in Q4 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, imports of natural gas in value terms decreased 4.6 times, from $438.69 million to $95.81 million, diesel fuel imports - by 37.1%, from $270.9 million to $170.34 million, gasoline - by 18.2% - from $80.69 million to $65.99 million, electricity - by almost 6.1 times - from $105.5 million to $17.4 million, fuel oil - by 5.5 times - from $57.83 million to $10.53 million, coal - by 42.5% - from $9.51 million to $5.47 million. At the same time, the decline in energy imports under the "Other" section amounted to 6.1%, from $35.56 million to $33.39 million. According to the NBM data, in 2023, compared to 2022, Moldova reduced imports of diesel fuel in value terms by 17.7% - from $1 billion 057.64 million to $869.87 million, natural gas - 2.2 times - from $1 billion 006.67 million to $461.25 million, gasoline - by 14.5% - from $297.76 million to $254.58 million, electricity - 2.7 times - from $152.53 million to $56.84 million, coal - more than twice - from $37.18 million to $18.3 million, and fuel oil imports - increased by 7.6% - from $69.33 million to $74.6 million.
