Wetlands in 15 districts of Moldova along the Dniester River will be restored as part of the $7.9 million RE-MAP project
This is what the Restoring Ecosystems to Prevent Marine Pollution (RE-MAP) project, launched on Tuesday, aims to do. The initiative is funded by a $7.9 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (World Bank Group). The project aims to restore forest ecosystems, pastures, and wetlands. Activities will cover 15 districts of the country, including Soroca, Floresti, Orhei, Criuleni, Anenii Noi, and Stefan Voda. The project includes the planting of 1,800 hectares of forests and the development of silvopasture management plans for 10,000 hectares. The project's main objectives are to expand sustainable management areas in the Dniester River basin, restore degraded ecosystems, reduce soil erosion and water pollution, and enhance natural water retention and filtration functions in the face of climate change. The project is planned for implementation in 2026–2030 and is part of a broader international program to protect aquatic and marine ecosystems. // 31.03.2026 — InfoMarket
