Initial investments in the project for the construction of a multimodal logistics center in Beresti are estimated at 18 million euros

Initial investments in the project for the construction of a multimodal logistics center in Beresti are estimated at 18 million euros

This was announced during the Real Estate Forum by Kent Busk, representative of Seaport Group BV. He presented the project to the investors participating in the Forum, which took place within Moldova Business Week 2024, and spoke about how this railroad logistics hub will help to connect Moldova to the global transportation and logistics network. Also, the Forum discussed government programs to support projects of this kind and possible options for financing by donors, such as the European Investment Bank. The multimodal logistics center in Beresti is planned to be built on the basis of the railway goods hub in Ungheni, built in 1960, but in the absence of investments it is only partially functioning. The station in Beresti has broad gauge (eastern) and European gauge lines and is located near the border with Romania, providing east-west and vice versa transport connections. As Kent Busk reported, according to the preliminary assessment of Seaport Group BV, which with the support of USAID is developing a feasibility study of the project, the initial investment for the first phase of construction and launch of the multimodal logistics center in Beresti is estimated at 18 million euros. Most of the funds are to be spent on construction on the logistics center site and on connecting infrastructure. The multimodal logistics center is proposed to be built on a plot of about 18 hectares owned by the state and equipped with rail and automobile access roads, container cranes, loading and unloading platforms, warehouses, etc. The feasibility study being prepared by USAID will provide the government with a clear vision and steps to be taken to attract investment and develop this regional logistics hub. At the same time, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization Viorel Garaz said that the development of the logistics hub is a critical need for Moldova, as well as for the regional partners. It is important that this logistics center will be built in Ungheni, a new region, and not in one of the traditional regions sought by investors, such as Chisinau or Balti. This will create new business and employment opportunities for the local population, he said. The feasibility study will be completed by the end of the year, after which the government will be able to initiate a tender to select investors for the construction of the center. // 17.09.2024 – InfoMarket
