The EU accession process will create even more opportunities for successful business in Moldova - Janis Mazeiks
The head of the EU Delegation in Moldova said this while speaking at the international forum Moldova Business Week-2024. He recalled that the European Union and Moldova already have a very strong partnership, based on the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA), which have been in force for 10 years. They are the basis of economic cooperation. In particular, 2/3 of Moldova's exports go to the EU, while 50% of Moldova's imports come from the EU and, very importantly, the EU is the source of 80% of direct foreign investments in our country. “All this comes from the framework provided by the Association Agreement and DCFTA, but a lot has changed since then. Especially important is Moldova's path to the status of a candidate country and future member of the European Union. This fact has changed our way of thinking in the EU, as well as our actions, because it is one perspective to deal with a partner and another to deal with a future member. And I hope that it may also encourage international companies to change their way of thinking and acting towards Moldova, as this is a country with an important competitive advantage, being a future EU member,” Janis Mazeiks said. He expressed confidence that the EU accession process will create even more opportunities for doing successful business in Moldova, as it will be more deeply integrated with the EU and its markets. “The EU accession also comes with many challenges and reforms, which will require the efforts of all the authorities, the business environment and the country's citizens. We have supported Moldova so that Moldovan exporters can continue to export unlimited quantities of agricultural products to EU markets, we have liberalized road transport services and we are working to implement additional trade facilitation instruments. Moldova's participation in the EU flagship programs, such as the Single Market Program, the Digital Europe Program and Horizon Europe, will inevitably strengthen the ties between Moldova and the EU, thus increasing the competitiveness of the Moldovan economy,” Janis Mazeiks said. // 16.09.2024 - InfoMarket.
