The EBRD will support the modernization of the information systems of the Moldovan Customs Service in order to implement European customs standards
Representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development announced this at a meeting with the leadership of the Moldovan Customs Service, during which they discussed the projects to be implemented, as well as the needs for assistance to the customs authority. According to the Customs Service, the discussions mainly concerned the assessment of the current state of the projects financed by the EBRD, the progress made in the process of digitalization of information systems, as well as the prospects for expanding cooperation. At the same time, the meeting provided an opportunity to review the activities and results of the Customs Digitalization project, funded by the EU through the EBRD and implemented by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). “The initiatives put forward by the Customs Service together with the EBRD are essential to achieve the digitalization objectives proposed by the customs authority, which ultimately aim to improve the quality of services provided to economic agents, reduce the time and cost of operations, but also to increase the transparency and predictability of customs processes,” said Alexandru Iacub, Director of the Customs Service. Discussions also focused on the need for external assistance, stemming from the priorities of the customs administration in the field of anti-fraud and trade facilitation in the current context. In this regard, the EBRD representatives confirmed their willingness to support the Customs Service in achieving its strategic objectives, in order to strengthen the institutional capacity to implement European customs standards, one of which is the modernization of information systems. // 10.09.2024 - InfoMarket.
