Foreign investors can feel safe and energy prices in Moldova are comparable to those in the region - Victor Parlicov
The Energy Minister said this while speaking at the Moldova Business Week international forum. He said that Moldova used the energy crisis, which started in 2021, as a catalyst for the development of the energy sector, and now it is much more attractive for investors. The Energy Minister stressed that over the last 2 years, Moldova's energy sector has made important leaps, including synchronization with the European energy system ENTSO-E, as well as important progress in adjusting the legislation to the European one and liberalization of energy markets. “For 30 years Moldova was largely dependent on Russia, we can't imagine that major investments could happen in such conditions, and we also didn't see investments from Russia. But now everything has changed, we have implemented the European legislation, we have become more known to investors from the energy view point,” Victor Parlicov said. He emphasized that Moldova went through a rather difficult period in October-November 2022. “Gazprom unilaterally reduced gas supplies, the energy infrastructure in Ukraine was destroyed, Moldavskaya GRES did not supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester, but our country proved that it can withstand this very difficult scenario,” the Energy Minister said. He said that, from the energy point of view, foreign investors can feel safe at present, while the energy prices in Moldova are correlated with the prices in the region. Victor Parlicov said that the first tender for the construction of large photovoltaic and wind parks with a total capacity of 165 MW is under way, and the investors' interest in this opportunity will be a test of the sector's attractiveness. He named decarbonization of the economy as another priority for the Ministry of Energy, which can be achieved by investing in renewable energy as well as energy efficiency. Investment and business opportunities in these sectors were reviewed by the Energy Minister. // 16.09.2024 - InfoMarket.
