
The volume of industrial production in Moldova decreased by 6.4% in January-May 2023 relative to the same period in 2022.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported this, without providing data in value terms. According to the agency, at the same time in May 2023 the volume of industrial production decreased by 7.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. Overall, in January-May 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, production in the extractive industry decreased by 10.9%, while in the processing industry - decreased by 7.9%. According to NBS data, food processing companies in the first 5 months of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, decreased overall output by 19.3%. Beverage production showed an increase of 5.2%. Textile production decreased by 8.8%. Apparel output decreased by 12.4%. Under the section leather tanning and finishing; production of suitcases, bags, saddlery; dressing and dyeing of fur there it was registered a decrease by 6.5%: under the section wood processing and production of wood and cork products, except furniture; production of products from straw and other plant materials for weaving - an increase by 13.1%. Production of paper and paper products decreased by 10.5%; production of chemicals and chemical products decreased by 40.5%. In the production of pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations there was registered a 43% growth; in the production of rubber and plastic products there was registered a 13.1% decline. In the metallurgical industry the production increased by 39.9%. The output of metal structures and products, except for machinery, equipment and plants decreased by 17.4%; under the section "production of computers, electronic and optical products" the indicator decreased by 0.5%. The production of electrical equipment registered an increase of 49.1%. The production of machinery and equipment increased 4.9 times, while the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers decreased by 11.5%. The output of furniture decreased by 13.9%. The repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment registered a 5.2% decline. The production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning recorded a decline of 0.9%.
