The Ministry of Economy to conduct a study to understand the external demand for Moldovan wines.
According to the ministry, this was discussed at a meeting of the head of the ministry, Sergiu Gaibu, with the director of the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV) Cristina Frolov. The meeting discussed issues related to the situation of domestic wine producers in promoting the export of wines and cognacs to the international market, as well as identifying new opportunities for promoting the national brand Wine of Moldova. Sergiu Gaibu noted that the planned study of external demand for Moldovan wines will also include a study of potential export opportunities by type of product and measures to promote the Moldova’s wine brand. The Ministry of Economy intends to optimize the processes of interaction between the state and domestic producers, as well as to identify markets with a real potential for wine export. The parties also discussed the delegation of a representative of the ministry to the Coordination Council of the ONVV after the introduction of amendments to the Law on Grapes and Wine, according to which 2 more members entered the Coordination Council: 1 from the Ministry of Economy and 1 from the Ministry of Finance. In turn, Cristina Frolov presented ideas for strengthening institutional capacity and protecting local producers; changes in grape growing practices to ensure their resilience in drought conditions; and also stressed the need to eliminate unfair competition practices and ensure a transparent and fair competitive environment. The parties also noted the need to change the regulatory framework of the wine sector, which will increase the competitiveness of producers and simplify the procedures for export, taxation and certification of products. // 23.08.2021- InfoMarket.
