The IMF will continue to assist Moldova in obtaining high-quality official statistical data based on international standards

This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the International Monetary Fund in Moldova Svetlana Cerović at a meeting with the Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics Oleg Cara. According to the NBS, Oleg Cara thanked the IMF representatives for the long-term assistance provided by the fund in the process of modernization and harmonization of national statistics with international standards. The Director General of the NBS reviewed the current situation, problems and achievements in areas of cooperation with the IMF, such as the System of National Accounts, the Consumer Price Index, the International Comparability Program, the IMF Special Data Dissemination Standard, etc. Svetlana Cerović emphasized the importance of official statistics in the process of developing fact-based decisions, which ensures the economic and social development of the country, and highly appreciated the efforts of the National Bank of Moldova and other national institutions to expand the availability of official statistics in the macroeconomic sphere, brought into line with international standards, thereby ensuring the comparability of statistics at the regional and global levels. During the discussions, the parties noted the need to continue supporting the NBS and the partners of the National Statistical System, who have been trained in the production of macroeconomic statistics, with a view to modernizing them and aligning them with international standards. In this regard, the IMF representatives noted their readiness to continue providing assistance, emphasizing that high-quality official statistical data based on international standards are important in developing national and sectoral policies. In recent years, the IMF has carried out a number of technical assistance missions for statisticians of the NBS and the National Statistical System, during which work was carried out to develop resource use tables and improve estimates of the non-observed economy. In 2006, Moldova joined the IMF Special Data Dissemination Standard. As a result, a wide range of socio-economic, financial, and fiscal data on Moldova is regularly published in accordance with the dissemination calendar on the website of consolidated national data.// 27.03.2025 — InfoMarket
