The management concept of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is based on 3 pillars: independence, responsibility and transparency - Anca Dragu

The NBM Governor stated this while speaking at the “Future of Governance” conference held in Chisinau. More than 150 participants in the event discussed the role of technology and artificial intelligence in the transformation of public institutions and financial systems, the importance of synergies between them to increase efficiency, transparency and inclusiveness, the evolution of the legal framework, as well as political innovation and financial management. Anca Dragu emphasized that the mentioned 3 pillars of the NBM management are meant to ensure the reliability and stability of the financial sector. The National Bank Governor stressed that, as central banks are independent, democratic accountability mechanisms are needed to legitimize their position within the constitutional framework of the state. At the same time, Anca Dragu emphasized that transparency is an important condition for preserving the autonomy of the National Bank and gaining trust, credibility and public support. “In other words, the way of communication and the degree of public understanding determine transparency,” the head of the National Bank of Moldova said. Anca Dragu added that the development of the National Bank's capacities remains a priority, especially in the field of research and innovation. “These areas are difficult to develop in a small central bank like the NBM, given the numerous challenges in its main areas of activity. However, they are becoming essential to manage emerging risks and make the NBM a modern, flexible and sustainable body,” she said. The event was also attended by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the President of the Bucharest Stock Exchange Radu Hanga, the Chairman of the Romanian Financial Supervisory Authority Alexandru Petrescu, the Chairman of the National Financial Market Commission of Moldova Dumitru Budianschi, Dan Nutiu, Executive President of the Association of Romanian Investors in Moldova, Andrew Kakabadse, Professor of Henly Business School (UK), Mamas Koutsoyiannis, General Manager of Moore România & Republica Moldova, representatives of business and research environment. The conference was organized by the Association of Romanian Investors of Moldova, which is actively involved in the development of the investment and business environment in Moldova. // 21.03.2025 - InfoMarket
