
Moldova and the European Union agreed to initiate working visits together with the leaders and members of working groups on 35 chapters that will be discussed with the EU.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu following his visits to Brussels. According to the MFAEI, following the recommendation of the European Commission to begin negotiations on accession to the EU, Nicu Popescu made a working visit to Brussels together with the team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Finance. During the working visit, Nicu Popescu met with the Director General of the Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the EU, Gert Jan Koopman, with whom he discussed the next steps in the process of Moldova's accession to the EU. At the meeting, it was noted that Moldova has made significant progress in implementing the recommendations of the European Commission, the level of implementation is 94%. “We discussed in detail the actions that need to be completed by March 2024, emphasizing the continuation of the reform of the judicial system and the process of de-oligarchization,” noted Nicu Popescu. Also in Brussels, the head of the MFAEI met with the Director for Eastern Neighborhood and Institution Building of the European Commission Lawrence Meredith, the head of the department for Georgia and Moldova Diana Yablonskaya and the head of the department of regional policy and strategy for the Western Balkans Thomas Hagleitner. “European officials have assured us of the full support of the European institutions in our EU accession process.
