Moldova remains to implement 3 key measures to fully implement all 9 measures recommended by the European Commission to begin negotiations on accession to the EU - Nicu Popescu.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration announced this at a press conference on Wednesday. He recalled that the European Commission stated on November 8 that Moldova has fully implemented 6 out of 9 recommendations, and the remaining 3 have been practically implemented. The head of the MFAEI noted that the EC stated that in general, for 9 recommendations, the level of their implementation amounted to 94% of all measures for full implementation. According to Nicu Popescu, one of the remaining measures concerns the transparent and meritocratic appointment of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice, other judicial and prosecutorial bodies that have undergone pre-vetting, including the Prosecutor General. The second measure provides for the allocation of additional funds to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, and the third measure provides additional steps for de-oligarchization, including limiting cash payments and stricter regulation of financial flows. The head of the MFAEI said that the government on Wednesday had already adopted a bill regarding cash payments, which is an important step to limit cash flows. According to him, the authorities will also continue to take measures to reform the justice system and de-oligarchization in order to reduce the influence of oligarchs on the political and economic system of our country, the process of appointing incorruptible judges, and the fight against corruption. Nicu Popescu recalled that the National Action Plan for Moldova’s accession to the European Union for 2024-2027 was approved, which contains thousands of specific measures that will then need to be taken to implement European norms and rules. He also emphasized that the EC noted Moldova’s progress on all 33 articles, while significant progress was noted on 9 articles. They relate to freedom of movement of capital, government procurement, financial services, the energy sector, tax and customs policies, foreign policy and security policy. The head of the MFAEI said that the EC considers Moldova to be the country with the best dynamics of reforms, and Moldova will continue to implement them and prepare for the process of negotiations on accession to the EU// 15.11.2023 — InfoMarket.
