The Moldovan authorities have extended the validity of the environmental permit for the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMP) (Ribnita) until December 31.
This decision was made at a meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations, chaired by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. In particular, it was decided that the validity of the environmental permit for waste management and the permit for the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere from stationary sources, previously issued to MMP, will be extended until December 31. It is agreed that, by derogation from the Law on Environmental Protection, the Law on Atmospheric Air Protection and the annex to the Law on Regulation of Business Activities by Permit, the Environmental Protection Agency will issue the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant, within 1 working day from the date of application, the necessary environmental permits valid until December 31st. It should be noted that previously the Moldovan authorities repeatedly extended the validity of the environmental permit for the MMP and this happened in parallel with the achievement of another agreement between Chisinau and Tiraspol, according to which the Moldavian State District Power Plant, located in the Transnistria region, will supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester through the company Energocom within the same time frame at a lower price acceptable to the Moldovan authorities. When there was no such agreement, environmental certificates were not issued or renewed. Moldavskaya GRES and MMP are the largest enterprises in the Transnistrian region. Thanks to previously received environmental authorizations from the Moldovan authorities, the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant was able to unblock its activities, import raw materials and resume production. For stable operation of the enterprise, regular supplies of scrap metal from abroad are necessary. As noted at MMP, previously, due to the fact that the Moldovan authorities did not issue environmental authorization to the enterprise, it could not import raw materials for processing. MMP is seeking to be granted long-term environmental authorization by the Moldovan authorities for 5 years. The last time the validity of the environmental permit for the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant was extended by another month - until the end of October. At the same time, Energocom extended the electricity purchase and sale contract with Moldavskaya GRES until the end of 2024. // 30.10.2023 – InfoMarket.
