Exporting products to the international market costs Moldova 3 times more expensive due to the war in Ukraine and interruption of logistic chains.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated this while speaking to MPs. He said that today, the export of Moldovan products to the international market costs more and more expensive, at a time when more and more countries open their markets to Moldova. "Today, it costs 3 times more expensive to export a batch of Moldovan products to the European market. Now it costs 3 times more expensive to export a container of Moldovan production to the international market, because earlier, before the war in Ukraine, this container was sent to the port of Odessa and cost $2-3 thousand, while today its delivery to Spain costs 10-12 thousand euros," Dorin Recean emphasized. He said that the opposition is outraged by the problems in the agri-food sector and the decrease in exports, but pretends to have forgotten that the war launched by Russia against Ukraine has interrupted logistic chains, made transportation more expensive and hampered trade. Prime Minister said that despite these problems, the European Union has become Moldova's most important trade partner in recent years. "We see only blackmail and embargoes coming to us from Russia, here, in Europe, we have free, sustainable, predictable trade and there is support for our farmers. After Russia imposed an embargo in 2006 and 2013, defiantly destroying bottles of Moldovan wine, our producers turned to the stable European market, and wine exports from Moldova to the EU have been growing steadily, year after year, and continue to grow. I would like to remind you, so that you can be proud that the largest wine producer of Central and Eastern Europe comes from here, from our country. And the market of this producer is located exclusively in the European Union. This wine is appreciated by everyone. Everyone is proud of this producer except you," Dorin Recean said. He stressed that the authorities managed to liberalize the trade with the EU, and our producers can export apples, plums, grapes and other agricultural products duty-free. This year, the supply of Moldovan cherries to the EU increased 12 times. "Such success stories of our producers motivate us to continue opening new markets and opportunities, to encourage Moldovan farmers to modernize their business and offer quality products," Prime Minister said. // 20.10.2023 – InfoMarket
