
By 2026, Moldova plans to reduce the number of "bad" roads by 15%, to prepare a feasibility study of the Iasi-Chisinau-Odessa highway construction project, and to reduce the number of traffic accidents by 10%.
This is stipulated by the National Development Plan for 2024-2026 and the government's action plan for 2024, concerning the fields of activity that fall under the competence of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The ministry organized the first round of public consultations on the drafts of these plans, dedicating the meeting to road infrastructure goals. According to State Secretary Nicolai Mindra, the priority actions that the ministry proposes to implement are the rehabilitation, modernization and construction of access roads to bridges and customs posts (5 access roads, about 16 km); a 15% reduction of "bad" and "very bad" public roads; an 8% increase in the length of roads of national importance, improved and transferred to the category of roads in "good" and "very good" condition (about 450 km); reduction of the number of road accidents by 10% in 2026 relative to 2023; development of the feasibility study of the project "Construction of the highway Iasi-Chisinau-Odessa". At the same time, among the important actions planned for 2024 is the approval of a number of government decisions, as well as amendments to some legislative acts. The amendments will contribute to: improving road safety, strengthening the capacity to manage the national road network, attracting additional financial resources for further rehabilitation of local roads, connecting national transportation networks to the European TEN-T network, etc. In particular, it is planned to approve the National Road Traffic Safety Program and the Program for the implementation of the Mobility Strategy until 2030, to approve the Regulation on the classification of road network safety, etc. It is worth mentioning that the Ministry has planned 4 meetings with representatives of state institutions, development partners, business associations within the framework of consultations on the above mentioned 2 projects, selecting 4 segments for discussions: transport infrastructure, regional and local development and water supply and sewerage infrastructure, transport, construction and urban development. // 16.11.2023 - InfoMarket.
