Moldova and Romania will receive 12 million euros from the European Union for the implementation of projects to modernize border infrastructure

This was announced by the Customs Service of Moldova, noting that it is making constant efforts to implement and apply the provisions of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union in the customs field. In the context of granting Moldova the status of a candidate for EU accession, the imperative for the Customs Service is to strengthen the institutional capacity for the application of international instruments in the customs and commercial sphere. It is emphasized that access to European funds, in accordance with the institutional priorities of both customs authorities, will contribute to the implementation of bilateral infrastructure modernization projects and ensuring the interconnection of customs transit systems, taking into account the future accession of Moldova to the 1987 Convention on a Common Transit Regime. As noted, thanks to the support of the Romanian government, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Customs Service of Moldova and the Customs Administration of Romania presented 3 Moldovan-Romanian projects within the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility program to receive funding from European funds for the construction of the infrastructure of the customs post Ungheni (Moldova) - Ungheni (Romania), modernization of the Leuseni-Albita customs post (cargo sector), modernization of the Giurgiulesti-Galati customs post. It is also planned to equip the customs post - the estimated cost is 3 million 952.6 thousand euros (EU contribution is 1 million 976.3 thousand euros). At the same time, the project for the modernization of the Leuseni-Albita customs post (cargo sector) is estimated at 3 million 160 thousand 589.76 euros (EU contribution - 1 million 580 thousand 294.88 euros) and will be implemented in the context of the construction of a new bridge with 4 traffic lanes. It also provides for the purchase and installation of equipment at the customs post - an estimated cost of 3 million 690 thousand 280 euros (EU contribution - 1 million 845 thousand 140 euros). The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development is responsible for the implementation of these projects. The Giurgiulesti-Galati customs post modernization project provides for: preparation of a concept for the development of a management system and traffic organization at the border checkpoint on the side of Moldova for the Galati/Giurgiulesti/Reni checkpoint - an estimated cost of 100 thousand euros, of which the EU contribution is 50 thousand euros; works on expansion/modernization of the existing car park in Giurgiulesti - estimated cost of 836.5 thousand euros, of which the contribution of the EU - 418250 euros; purchase and installation of equipment at the Giurgiulesti customs post - an estimated cost of 3 million 388.6 thousand euros, of which the EU contribution is 1 million 694.3 thousand euros.
