Moldova is interested in expanding trade with Denmark, increasing Danish investments and cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated this after a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Chisinau on Tuesday. She pointed out that we are all going through a difficult time because of the war in Ukraine, its economic consequences and the energy crisis. At the same time, she said, despite the difficulties, Moldova continues on the path of strengthening democracy, implementing reforms, strengthening institutions and improving the living conditions of the population, and aims to join the European Union. She identified keeping peace and ensuring security of citizens as important priorities in the current situation of war in the neighboring country. Moldovan President thanked Denmark for helping Moldova to manage the refugee crisis and for the support announced within the framework of the Moldova Support Platform, which will finance energy projects and support local media. The head of state expressed hope that Moldova will resume cooperation with DANIDA, the Danish International Development Agency, and that our countries will intensify bilateral cooperation in various fields. "We would like to cooperate in the field of renewable energy sources. The energy crisis that we are currently experiencing has forced us to focus on the energy independence of Moldova, especially on renewable or environmentally friendly resources. We appreciate the preliminary visits to Moldova of representatives of some Danish companies from this sector. Denmark is a recognized European leader in waste management. The projects of municipal waste transformation into energy and heat, as well as the initiatives on carbon emission reduction announced by your country are examples we want to learn from", Maia Sandu said. She noted that our country will launch a national solid waste management program this year. "We have also made an ambitious commitment to decarbonization for the coming decades. We want to cooperate with Denmark in these sectors. We are also interested in intensifying economic exchanges and increasing Danish investments in Moldova. At present there are 36 companies with Danish capital operating in Moldova. There is no doubt that this number can increase. Economic growth, trade, cooperation between countries - this brings prosperity to people. We are determined to continue the development of Moldova and to offer a better life to its citizens. But development needs peace. Ukraine must win this existential war, and the international community must do everything to make this happen as quickly as possible. Peace must return to Europe", said the President of Moldova. For her part, the Danish Prime Minister said that Moldova is an important partner and friend for her country, and welcomed Moldova's EU candidate status, confirming her willingness to continue providing Moldova with all the necessary assistance in difficult conditions. She noted that the war in Ukraine also affects Moldova, which faces the problem of high gas and electricity prices. "This is a great challenge for you and for all of us. Within the EU, we are working to alleviate this burden, and we are determined to increase the macro-financial assistance for Moldova to 295 million euros," Mette Frederiksen said. // 31.01.2023 – InfoMarket
