The Moldovan authorities have extended the environmental permit for Moldovan Metallurgical Plant (MMP) until the end of February.
This decision was made at a meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations chaired by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita. In particular, it was decided that the validity of the environmental permit for waste management and the permit for the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere from stationary sources, previously issued to the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant (Ribnita), will be extended for another month - until February 28, 2023. It should be noted that that earlier the Moldovan authorities had repeatedly extended the validity of the environmental permit for MMP and this happened in parallel with the achievement of another agreement between Chisinau and Tiraspol, according to which the Moldavskaya GRES, located in Transnistria, will supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester through Energocom within the same time frame at an acceptable Moldovan authorities price. When there was no such agreement, environmental certificates were not issued or renewed. Moldavskaya GRES and MMP are the largest enterprises in the Transnistrian region. The Moldovan Metallurgical Plant, thanks to previously received environmental authorizations from the Moldovan authorities, was able to unblock its activities, import raw materials and resume production. For the stable operation of the enterprise, regular deliveries of scrap metal from abroad are necessary. As noted at MMP, earlier due to the fact that the Moldovan authorities did not issue an environmental authorization to the plant, it could not import raw materials for processing. The Moldovan Metallurgical Plant is seeking to be granted a long-term environmental authorization by the Moldovan authorities for 5 years. MMP also announced that it will invest $28 million in a program to green the production process, calculated until 2026. // 31.01.2023 — InfoMarket
